Practices & Regattas

High School Practices and Regattas

All sailors are expected to rig (set up) and derig (take down) boats for practice. Sailing teams focus on team racing, strategic and tactical training, and physical fitness. Drills performed at practice will foster experience to properly prepare a sailor for regattas. Many practices will include mini-races to offer sailors opportunity to try, fail and ultimately succeed at racing.

Spring Pre-season Open House: Sunday, April 3rd at 6 pm
Practice Schedule

Spring season: April 5th - May 12th

The group will be split into two practice sessions:

Practice #1: 4:00-6:00 pm:  This practice is recommended for those sailors that drive themselves or have a ride to the lake right after school.

Practice #2: 6-8 pm. This practice is recommend for those sailors that have after-school activities that would otherwise prevent them from coming out early. It's also great for those working parents that need a bit more time to get to the lake.

The early group will rig up and be ready to sail at 4:15. The later group will get their chalk talk at 6 to set up the evening's drills, jump in the boats at 6:15, and be done no later than 8 pm.

Hoover Sailing Club also offers opportunities for students to join their Junior Race Team.
